The title of the world’s longest zip line will soon belong to the United Arab Emirates.
Located at the tallest point of the Jebel Jais mountain this zip line is set to not just extend the record of the longest zip line, but to introduce its own unique features.
“We are launching the longest zipline in the world,” said Haitham Mattar, chief executive of the Ras al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority. “We are aiming to launch by the end of the year, with a mini adventure park around it as well.”
Already home to the world’s tallest building and biggest shopping mall,The United Arab Emirates is quickly stacking up on world-class attractions. According to the Independent, the line will be longer than 28 soccer fields (about 9,200 feet or 1.7 miles) and more than three times the height of of Dubai’s tallest skyscraper, the Burj Khalifa.
The previous record holder was at the Toroverde Adventure Park in Orocovis, Puerto Rico, which is roughly 2205 meters long.
"What makes this zip line unique is that participants are strapped in the face-down position, which makes them really feel like they’re flying through the air," cited Home and Leisure. "There is no age limit, but participants have to meet the minimum weight of 77 lbs and the maximum weight of 330 lbs, and a minimum height of 47 inches."
If you're below these measurements, sorry, you'll just have to wait your turn. Mattar also said: "This zip line will be like no other experience out there. Once harnessed to the zip line in a horizontal superhero position, participants will soar through the sky as if they’re a bird. It’s the closest you can get to the experience of flying."
That sounds thrilling and, erm, terrifying. But it's certainly sounds worth a try.
