Airbnb revealed their most popular cities recently. The list was released via their Airbnb’s 2018 Travel Trends, highlights the year’s trends in key Airbnb locations, including the US, Europe and Asia.

Last year, more travellers swapped hotel rooms for Airbnb accommodation as some people preferred being close to the locals and experiencing the culture and traditions of that destination with them.

This year, cities like Paris, New York and London are mainstays on the list of most-booked cities. However, smaller, popular vacation spots like Lisbon and Miami have also made their way onto the list of most-booked global cities for Airbnb travelers.

In a statement, Airbnb revealed that home sharing is healthy tourism by being inclusive and sustainable. It read: “It helps people create new economic opportunities for themselves in the homes and communities where they live, and helping emerging destinations welcome more visitors in a scalable, sustainable way.

“With up to 97 percent of the accommodation charge remaining in the hands of hosts, and 42 percent of guests’ spending occurring within the neighbourhoods where they stay, the financial impact of home sharing can be significant for emerging travel destinations.”
