London - It would be perfect for someone desperate to flee the trappings of urban life – as long as those include electricity and mains water.
A two-bedroom hideaway on its own river island is on sale for just £190 000 (about R3.6-million).
The current owner of the island, a quarter of a mile upstream from the Worcestershire village of Wyre Piddle, is an artist who generates electricity from solar panels, collects water for washing and cooking when it rains and uses a woodburning stove for heating.
The home, which can only be reached by boat, has two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen and bathroom. A veranda overlooks the river and countryside towards the wooded slopes of Bredon Hill.
Estate agent Knight Frank’s guide price for the “truly unique and magical” island is £190 000, £20 000 less than the cost of the average home in England and Wales.
If unsold, the island will be auctioned on September 27.
