The sun has been out, and we bet it's left you hot, bothered and sweaty. Nobody likes to be hot and bothered as it sure does leave you feeling sticky and restless.

If you’re wondering how best to cool off in this heat, we at the Jellybean Journal have you covered.

The best way to cool off is to hydrate yourself, that means, drinking lots of water or cool beverages. You can also make ice lollies with plain or flavoured water.

Local Cape Town chef Sphiwo Ntsika Cingani says you can make water more fun by adding some of your favourite fruit to it too.

“Tap water is bottomless and gives you kids the hydration you need. Jazz it up with a few odds and ends from the fruit bowl or from mom and dad’s herb garden, and you can experiment to find new favourites,” he said.

While you try to cool off, it does not hurt to have some fun with water. How about you ask mom and dad to buy you balloons and you make water balloons? Then gather your friends outside and throw them at each other to cool off. Remember to make this fun and ask your friends if they are okay with having a balloon thrown at them first – we don’t want you hurting your friends and their feelings.

The hot sun can be too much when you’re inside the house, so why don’t you go find some shade under a tree outside and read a good book or do your homework? You’ll be both productive and cool.

We live in a beautiful city with plenty of beaches, which can be a fun activity for you and your family; plus, you’ll be more than cool when you get home.

While it is important to stay hydrated to cool off from the irritation caused by the sun, it is also important to protect your skin from the sun with sun cream. However, try and avoid the sun as much as possible to avoid the discomfort it causes.
