At least six people, including two children, were killed when a truck and a light motor vehicle collided head-on, police said on Saturday.

The truck driver was arrested and charged with culpable homicide, according to police, as all the passengers in the other vehicle were killed.

The fatal crash happened on the R60 between Worcester and Robertson in the Boland region of the Western Cape.

Weekend Argus understands that the truck crashed into a blue Volkswagen Citi Golf, according to witnesses.

The truck was heading in the direction of Robertson while the car was travelling from Worcester.

The truck driver didn’t sustain any injuries.

Police spokesperson, Wesley Twigg said the Worcester police registered a culpable homicide case.

"Six (people) which include two children passed away. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation,“ said Twigg.

The names of those killed are not yet in the public domain.

“The identities of the deceased persons are yet to be established,“ said Twigg.

A number of fatal truck crashes occurred in the Western Cape in the month of October.

A man believed to be in his 50s was on Thursday killed when he was struck by a truck on the N2 towards Mossel Bay in Klein Brak.

Earlier this month another collision involving a truck claimed the lives of two people.

A 39-year-old man and his two-year-old toddler died hours apart after they were involved in a collision with a truck on the M3 on October 7.

Little Felix Olivier, died at Red Cross Children’s Hospital at around 8pm, hours after the crash claimed her father, Jaendre’s life. Two other people were injured after a truck carrying bricks near Firgrove Bridge on the M3 in Cape Town collided with three motor vehicles.
